The final chapter of my 2020 Road Trip takes place at Daytona International Speedway for the 24 Hours of Daytona. This would be my third trip to the race but my first where I could go up to the pit wall. In January 2020, I took a road trip up the east coast to visit museums, drive on some curvy roads, and visit family before finishing in Daytona for the Rolex 24. In this video, I go from Jacksonville, FL, spend a night in Charlotte, NC, drive over into Tennessee via Tail of the Dragon (US 129) and stay in Knoxville, then end up in Roanoke for the third night of the trip. Bristol was on the way to Roanoke so I stopped there as well; even got to fly the drone a bit. In January 2020, I took a road trip up the east coast to visit museums, drive on some curvy roads, and visit family before finishing in Daytona for the Rolex 24. In this video, the Blue Ridge Parkway takes up most of the trip. I really enjoyed the sweeping turns of the Parkway; the road had some spectacular overlooks over the mountains as well. What would’ve been a little over four hours of driving on the highway was almost eight because of how often I stopped and how far off the path I went. 10/10 would do again. I would end up in Chantilly, VA for the night and stay another four before leaving to see family. In January 2020, I took a road trip up the east coast to visit museums, drive on some curvy roads, and visit family before finishing in Daytona for the Rolex 24. The return leg of the trip was to visit family. Leaving a snowy and icy Chantilly, I drove to the family farm in Shipman. That morning had an incredible sunrise and great flying conditions; even got to chase my cousin on the ATV with the Mavic. The next day took me to Atlanta where I spent two nights and visited the Georgia Aquarium. Pro Tip: Don’t go there on MLK day; lots of little kids running around. From there, Tifton was next with a stop at Warner Robins and the Museum of Aviation. An early morning took me the rest of the way to Jacksonville where I would make a pit stop for the night in preparation for four days of racing in Daytona. My base of operations was in Chantilly, VA, just five minutes from the Air & Space Museum at Dulles International Airport. The first day was cold and wet, perfect for wandering around the nearly empty museum. The second and third days were spent in Metro D.C., visiting memorials, monuments, and a few other museums. The fourth and final day had me back at the Dulles museum because I couldn’t get enough.
